Exercise 2 | Fingering Guide
Objective of Exercise
To familiarize students with the ridges on the TACTUS keyboard.

Prior to Lesson
  • Print this page and use it as a guide.
  • Click on the Fingering Guide, print the page and use it as a reference.

Lesson Guide
Go through the Home Key Practice (see below). When this is completed, start your regular touch-typing lesson.


Home Key Practice
Ask students to look at the keyboard and to place one finger at a time on the HOME keys.
Then ask them to remove the fingers and place them back on the HOME keys again.
Repeat several times
.

Then tell students:

  1. Look at the keyboard.
  2. Move the "F-finger" from its HOME position, UP one key until it hits the ridges on the key R.
  3. Move the "F-finger" from its HOME position, DOWN one key until it hits the ridges on the key V.

Ask the students to repeat the above exercise a few times.
Then move to the middle finger and repeat the exercise.
Repeat until all eight fingers are done.

Repeat all from beginning asking students to not look at the keyboard.
